Mycorrhized with bloody milk caps

The bloody milk cap (Lactarius sanguifluus) owes its name to the wine-red color of the milk oozing from its flesh. Edible mushroom, the bloody milky is sold as well on the markets of Europe as in Asia. It appreciates the heat and the calcareous grounds. If its natural habitat is mainly Mediterranean, it is now possible to cultivate and harvest it every autumn at the foot of pine plantations mycorhized with Lactarius sanguifluus. For this reason, Robin Nurseries offers mushroom plants specifically inoculated to promote and accelerate the development of bloody milk caps.

Pines especially mycorrhized for the bloody milk caps mushroom cultivation

Several species of host trees are eligible for the cultivation of the bloody milk cap. ROBIN Nurseries offers you different coniferous plants mycorhized with Lactarius sanguifluus. Produced in our own laboratory, under the control of INRAE, these mushroom plants allow you to produce your own delicious bloody milk caps. We advise you to choose a tree species adapted to the climate of your region. Depending on the age of the plant and the land chosen, you will have to wait between 3 and 4 years to harvest your first mushrooms.

Which tree should I plant to produce and harvest bloody milk caps ?

More tasty than the saffron milk cap, the bloody milk cap sometimes grows in isolation, but most often in groups under conifers (mainly pines). It can be found near Scots pine, umbrella pine or Austrian black pine. All these pine species respond very favorably to mycorrhization by Lactarius sanguifluus and produce, therefore, beautiful bloody milk caps as soon as the conditions of their culture are met.

Need help ?The bloody milk cap is not the only edible mushroom that can be produced from the mycorrhization of a host plant. If you are not sure which species is best suited to your project, ask our experts for advice. They will help you set up your mushroom orchard.
