Truffle growing abilities of the Tonda Gentile hazelnut

The Tonga Gentile hazelnut (Corylus Avellana Tonda Gentile) is a very productive tree whose roots live in symbiosis with the truffle. This bushy shrub adapts very well to different latitudes and climates, so much so that it is cultivated all over Europe (especially in Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece, and France). A moderately vigorous hazelnut tree, it flourishes planted in well-drained soil, in rows oriented North-South to benefit from maximum sunlight. Easy to maintain, and not very demanding on the nature of the soil, it is very resistant to cold and can withstand temperatures as low as -25°C. The hazelnuts it produces are well rounded, of medium to large size and have a tasty and sweet flesh. This fruiting hazelnut tree will delight you with its abundant combined production of delicious hazelnuts and delicate black truffles.

About the black truffle (Tuber melanosporum)

Growing black truffles from a Tonda gentile hazel plantA true "black diamond", Tuber melanosporum is as rare as it is sought after. It can be recognized by its rounded shape, sometimes bumpy, and its black flesh marbled with white. This truffle gives off an intense perfume and reveals fine aromas that make it an exceptional mushroom. Emblematic of French gastronomy, the black truffle can be eaten cooked or raw, as a seasoning or as an accompaniment to a dish. Black truffles are harvested from November to early March. Depending on the age of the plant and the land chosen, you will have to wait between 6 and 8 years to harvest your first black truffles (reduced to 4 or 5 years in the case of production from hazelnut plants).
