European spruce (Picea excelsa)

The European spruce is an excellent mountain species. It should be avoided in hot locations, as it fears drought. In unsuitable sites, and in the plains, it can be attacked by insects and fungi. Its color, in the state of seedling of 1 to 3 years, is clearly bluish. Its high altitude origins give it a good resistance to winters without snow and to physiological droughts. The European spruce is interesting for the production of trees intended for the sale of Christmas trees, because it gives bushier trees which have less tendency to "wilt".
