Austrian black pine (Pinus nigra austriaca)

The Austrian black pine is the most used species for reforestation in the Mediterranean area. Indeed, it likes light and can withstand drought. Its great resistance to active limestone in the soil, thanks to its mycorrhizae, allows it to be the only species that can survive on superficial marl soils from 600 m. It is the species that has given the best results in the fight against erosion in the Southern Alps and in Lozère.
