Rockrose truffle skills

The rockrose (Cistus incanus) is an essential shrub of the Mediterranean region. It thrives in dry and hot climates. Several of its characteristics predispose it to truffle production: First, it has a vast root system that is conducive to the development of summer truffles. Then, it likes all types of calcareous soils, even superficial and arid. Moreover, its hydric needs are very low. Finally, its small size (about 1.5m high) makes it a very easy to maintain plant. Let us note that cistus can be implanted until 800 meters of altitude and that it resists the cold (until -15°C).

About the black truffle (Tuber melanosporum)

Growing black truffles from a rockrose plantA true "black diamond", Tuber melanosporum is as rare as it is sought after. It can be recognized by its rounded shape, sometimes bumpy, and its black flesh marbled with white. This truffle gives off an intense perfume and reveals fine aromas that make it an exceptional mushroom. Emblematic of French gastronomy, the black truffle can be eaten cooked or raw, as a seasoning or as an accompaniment to a dish. Black truffles are harvested from November to early March. Depending on the age of the plant and the land chosen, you will have to wait between 6 and 8 years to harvest your first black truffles.
